Having Camera Troubles..

Been having troubles with my dSLR camera for a few weeks, but I took a walk the other day along the torrens river, hoping I had fixed the problems - and the camera didn't act up once, and I got a few nice photos along the way - see below

"Paper Boats under the fountain"

Grass along the river banks

Galah - an Aussie bird

A "Red Hot Poker" flower

And a honey bee!

The bee wouldn't stay still long enough! It kept flying from flower to flower. I'm pretty sure the other people along the river thot I was insane, following a honey bee around with a telephoto lens! Of ALL the photos I took of the darn honey bee, I think this is one of the better ones

Photos below of the empty house - I'll add some more photos once we've completed getting all the furniture!

Adelaide Beach at Night

Was looking at a house to rent, 2 mins from the beach, and our visit was at the same time the sun was going down, so I snapped a few photos of the sun going down.

We choose a different house to rent, this time 15mins from the beach.. but still close enough!

Anyway, these photos taken at Grange beach, which is one of the north west suburban beaches in Adelaide.

We're in Kansas Dorothy ......

Here we are in Kansas (whoops) I mean Adelaide, getting on with the important business of life like...

Polishing the CV and studyinng all the latest buzz phrases that prove we are in touch........ if TV is to be belived and who could agrue with TV 'going foward', seems to be an essential for the CV .

Job hunting no luck yet Dave has had more success than me, but can't say I've actually reached that "desparate to return to work" stage yet while dave has started pacing like a tiger in the zoo, so it must be time for him to return to work

We are still House Hunting....... I now sooo love the internet. How much easier is the house hunting chore when its all before you with prices ,photos and even maps!!!

As you may have guessed Adelaide is great, every one has been really friendly and helpful, even the bus drivers... its either the drugs or we really are in OZ .

Welcome to Adelaide - and the Rain?

Well, we arrived safe and sound here in Adelaide - and it has been pretty much been raining non stop since we got here! And proper West Coast BC rain as well! We are taking it as a good sign.

"South Australia has had one of its best overnight downpours for the year.

There has been 18 millimetres of rain at Coles Point on the SA west coast overnight.

There were falls of up to 15 millimetres in the south-east and mid north and Adelaide received 14 millimetres.

The State Emergency Service has responded to call-outs for minor flooding and there are reports of trees down in the Adelaide Hills.

By late morning, Adelaide had recorded more than 20 millimetres of rain"

Anyway, enough about the weather, our rental apartment is close to town centre (10min walk to tram, then 20mins on the tram), and there is a large coles (supermarket) and Kmart just around the corner from our place - so far so good!

I'm now preparing for my interviews with the agency tommorrow - last minute updates to the CV ahead of time.

Last Day in Sydney

All our stuff is packed back into boxes & suitcases, the plane tickets are in our hands, an apartment has been rented for 3 weeks, and I've got my first job agency interview booked for lunchtime on Tuesday.

I guess this means the almost 4 months of not working is coming to an end...

So what can I tell you about adelaide?

Well, Dr Google & Friends tells me...

Adelaide's weather is generally mild and sunny. Adelaide does not suffer any major storms, typhoons, cyclones or hurricanes. The weather consists of:

  • Spring days (September to November) are on average a mild 22 degrees Celsius with plenty of sunshine.
  • Summer (December to February) can get quite hot (up to 40C) but averages around 28C . Adelaide's warm weather is dry not humid.
  • Autumn (March to May) is generally mild and sunny and much like spring although we start to get some rain.
  • Winter (June to August) is cool (around 15C) and wet but not cold enough for snow

As of 2006 Census, Adelaide had a metropolitan population of more than 1,105,839, making it Australia's fifth largest city. In the 2002-2003 period the population grew by 0.6%, while the national average was 1.2%. Some 70.3% of the population of South Australia are residents of the Adelaide metropolitan area, making South Australia one of the most centralised states

There are 466,829 employed people in Adelaide, with 62.3% full-time and 35.1% part-time. The median weekly individual income for people aged 15 years and over is $447 per week, compared with $466 nationally. The median family income is $1,137 per week, compared with $1,171 nationally.

Adelaide's housing and living costs are substantially lower than that of other Australian cities, with housing being notably cheaper. The median Adelaide house price is half that of Sydney and two-thirds that of Melbourne

All very exciting I know! But what is there to do? Well, there are the 2 AFL teams, the Crows and the Power. And it has been said that Adelaide has more restaurants per person than any other Australian City. The beaches are only 20minutes away, or closer if we choose to rent closer to the beach. And the city center itself is surrounded by 7km of parklands

Outside of Adelaide, there is the South Australian Wines of the Barossa valley (and other wine growing valleys). We hope there will be plenty of opportunities for camping in the National Parks that abound around South Australia.

Fingers crossed everything works out! We'll be in touch soon!

South Australia

We Didn't take many photos while we in South Australia - spent alot of time driving around the different suburbs of Adelaide trying to get a feel. But I did manage a few photos!

And of course, the obligatory "small town - large statue" found all across Australia!

Around Sydney - The Flying Foxes

Still in Sydney, we have 1 week to go before heading back to Adelaide to give it a go!

I've had a chance to take some photos of the "Flying Foxes" - australian fruit bats! And a huge colony has set up in the botanical gardens!

Thanks to my zoom lens, I've been able to take some decent photos of them!

Driving in the Outback

Hi, we Had a chance to take a video the Drive we made while up in Queensland.

Don't worry about the lack of sound, as we took the video on our old digital point and shoot, which doesn't have a microphone!

This is a stretch of the road out to Chillagoe (nb probably not the right spelling) - in Australia's Far North Queensland!

Sydney at Sunset

Found myself walking around the Harbour, and managed to get a few photos of the sun going down. I'd like to say I was alone, but it seems 1/2 the tourists in the city were sharing the moment with me!

Off the Grid

Hi there!

A short return to the modern world after my recent 'off grid adventures'.

Have been travelling all over the countryside Leyland Brothers style.

The whole cheap airfares thing must be one of the best things that has happened in the time I've been away...sadly heating your house hasn't been revolutisined and we have spent many a cold night even the Canadian has been suffering and lets face it that's saying something ......new career perhaps .........always wanted to be a double glazing sales man.

Enjoyed Cairns the best bit seeing my younger brother completely wrapped around teh tiny finger of his beautiful new daughter ...go girl.

Adelaide has been great and will certainly provide that change of lifestyle i've been harping on about for the last 3 years or so ..........so its back to Sydney and the serious stuff of life ...how dull.

My First Kangaroo!

It was 4:01 pm on the 21st of June - while driving around the Adelaide hills, I saw my first WILD (and not road kill or in a petting zoo) Kangaroo! We were just driving along, and on the side of the road were two of them. As I was doing 110 kmp/h I couldn't stop and take a photo of this momentous occasion - so I've "borrowed" a kangaroo picture from the web - call it artistic license!

...Adelaide Airport

Well, we've just finished a week here in Adelaide.

We both quite liked it. The City seems to be big enough to get jobs, but small enough that your never more than 30mins from where you want to be! And after the hussle of London for so many years, it is nice to be able to walk down the main shopping street crowded shoulder to shoulder with everyone else!

The next step will be to find a place to live, and search for jobs! But first back to Sydney to collect our stuff!

Hopefully we will be online again soon! I've got lots of photos and stories!

Out of Contact!

Well, it has been hard to find an internet cafe to get much blogging done!

We are still keeping busy with all our travels. Been taking plenty of Photos, and even some video of the drive through the remote parts of far north queensland! Sadly, eveybody will have to wait longer before we can share the stories and photos of our adventures!

We are now back in Syndey, looking to buy a car, before we head south to Melbourne and Adelaide!

Hope to be able to blog again soon!
